Romans 12:10a Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love;

“You will notice we say ‘brother and sister’ round here- it’s because we’re a family, and these folks are so near;” I remember learning this song from Bro. Tom Wall many years ago. I am thankful that I grew up singing songs that emphasized Scriptural truths and encouraged submission to those truths in my practices. As such, it never seemed strange to me to hear men and women in our church referred to as brother and sister. That’s just what the Bible taught us to do.

Though I am thankful for the teaching that I received (both direct and indirect) about the family of God and referring to them as brother and sister, I believe the point of this passage is less about what we call each other, and more about how we treat each other. What is your disposition toward those in the family of God? Can you be accused of being kindly affectioned? Is brotherly love evident in your conversations and behavior? Dear brothers and sisters of LBBC, be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love.
