Romans 12:9a Let love be without dissimulation

The entirety of LBBA is memorizing 1 John 4:1-8 this month. 1 John 4 is where we read that “love is of God.” We know that we are commanded to love the brethren (1 Peter 1:22), and love our enemies (Matthew 5:44). But how sincere is our love? We are instructed in Romans 12:9 that our love be without dissimulation. Dissimulation holds the idea of being hidden or being false. If our love is without dissimulation, it will be “true love”.

Don’t allow the world to define “true love”. True love is not fleshly or worldly. True love is not trashy or lusty. True love is not mushy or sappy. True love is acting in a way that puts someone else’s needs, welfare, and well-being above one’s own. God acted in this way when He’s sent Jesus Christ to pay for our sins. (1 John 4:10) If we are to have true love- love without dissimulation – we are going to selflessly serve other, humbly help others, and lovingly lift others Let your love be without dissimulation.
